MEDIA LANGUAGE IN AFRICA SHOX

2 comments:

  1. An intelligent, thoughtful and detailed analysis which is particularly strong on the emphasis on genre and the ideology of the music video.

    Next steps:

    1) Your case study indicates elements of independent research into genre. In order to raise to a confident Level 4, in future case studies endeavour to include more independent research. For example in this case a video clip from "The Third Man" in order to strengthen your point regarding the similarities of the low angle shots in the music video and those in "The Third Man", to include the noir colour pallet. Also a clip from "The Matrix".

    2) Start using prezi or slide share.

    3) Develop inter textual references, for example Africa Shox also suggests the Trans Atlantic Slave Trade and the experience of confused slaves leaving the slave ships, blinded by the sun and crippled by the conditions experienced on the voyages.

    Strongly proficient, borderline Level 3-4,

Well done Rose, a pleasure to assess.

  2. A further point: The artists/motifs

You say...unlike many other music videos the artists are not presented.... this is a generalised statement . Avoid any point you can't support.

Instead say something like :...Africa Shox does not include performance shots of the band but instead relies on story telling. This is similar to The Arctic Monkeys' bleak music video "Leave Before the Lights Come On" though the lead singer plays a leading role in the story.
